Great Thins are done, when men and mountains meet.
– William Blake
“Winter is coming”, that’s what the Stark would say in Game of Thrones. As winter is approaching it’s almost time to wear your boots, pack your ski, snowborad and everything you need. You can already foretaste the bitter cold, the mulled wine and the races on the ski run.
The Appennines during winter
The tosco-emilian Appennines offer a plenty choice of activities, from Piacenza to the Romagna you can find 15 ski station, 300km downhill, 3.000 km paths and fresh new snowparks. Moreover there are cities and villages where you can relax, we also recommend excursions in the woods and to stargaze, or the late dinner planning an overnight on the mountains.
Three destinations ski lovers can’t miss are: Cerreto Laghi (Re), Comprensorio del Cimone (Mo) e Corno alle Scale (Bo).
Cerreto Laghi is 1.344 meters high, here people can ski sourrounded by the breathtaking landscapes of the Tosco-Emilian National Park along 25km downhill.
This place has become one of the most popular and well-served ski stations in the region, thanks to its many offers and tourist servicies, also with the possibility to practice any winter sport (like apline or coss-country ski, ice skating, snowboard). Furthermore it’s is easy to get here as from the emilian slope as from the lugurian-tuscan one, it’s well connected to Reggio Emilia, La Spezia and Aulla.
Comprensorio del Cimone
One of the most well-equipped stations of the area. The ski stations were built after WWII where once there were only horses pulling sleds over the paths: the chairlif in Seggiola-Pian del Falco (the first one in Emilia), then the cable car in Passo del Lupo-Pian Cavallaro and the Polle and Cimoncino’s chairlifts (2.000 meters high).
Today this ski area has 50km ski run, and skiers can found any service in Sestola, Fanano, Riolunato and Montecreto. Also Bobbio and Fiumalbo are worth the trip.
Corno alle Scale
It’s situated 1944 meters high, with 36km ski run. The 80% of its installations are artificially covered in snow, allowing to ski during long period (150 days per year). Corno alle Scale is halfway from Bolonia and Florence, and into the Regional Natural Park.
It’s ski runs hosted many international contests, and also allowed Alberto Tomba to train in order to gain the gold madal. The snowboard is higly practiced, even off track; while the cross-country run allow to explore the park and enjoy nature.
