Visiting Bologna in Autumn

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

You haven’t planned that trip to Bologna yet? Autumn may be the perfect season to do so.
Its porticos will give you shelter from rain, allowing you to discover the hidden gems that this city has to offer.
Thanks to its central position, Bologna can be easily reached for a weekend getaway both by train — just half an hour from Florence, 1 hour from Milan and 1 hour and a half from Venice — and by plane.
Read our suggestions and share them with your friends, family or partner.

IF YOU LOVE NATURE

Early autumn is perfect for a hike in one of the parks and nature reserves in the province of Bologna, while in the sunny days of late October and early November you can take part in the “Trekking col Treno” hikes or wander the hills (or even the city) to take the perfect Fall Foliage picture.

IF YOU ARE WITH YOUR FAMILY OR HAVE CHILD-LIKE CURIOSITY

Take your children (age 0-99) to a museum or to a place that will amaze them.
You can also go for a walk or visit our haunted castles…But be warned: they are not for the faint of heart!

IF YOU WANT TO RELAX WITH YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER

Check out one of the many thermal spas along the Via Emilia or its picturesque hamlets and cities, taste our culinary specialties and don’t forget to listen carefully for the roar of engines in the land of motors.
Be sure to make a stop in the Slow Town of Castel San Pietro Terme, for a real escape from the everyday bustle that will nurture your mind, body, and soul.

IF YOU LOVE ART AND ARE LOOKING FOR NEW CULTURAL DESTINATIONS

You can head beneath ground to underground Bologna, explore its gothic side or discover the Castles of the City of Silk, with thermal spas only a few miles away.
Want more? What about the filming locations of many famous films?
If that’s not enough for you, urban hiking is another great option.

IF YOU ARE A MOTORSPORT ENTHUSIAST

Then you simply must go to the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari racetrack, one of Ayrton Senna’s favourites, is available for hire for a racing session or a ride on go-karts for an adrenaline rush.
If you are not much of a thrill-seeker, you may visit the Ducati Museum in Borgo Panigale or the Lamborghini Museum in Sant’Agata Bolognese.

IF YOU PREFER HEADING OFF THE BEATEN PATH

…Then you will love spending the weekend exploring monasteries, underground caves, or riding a Vespa up and down the beautiful hills of Bologna, like a true local!
Who knows? You might even find your dream wedding location!

FOR EVERYONE, NO EXCEPTIONS

This is a land of endless possibilities:

What are you waiting for? See you in Bologna!
