Dear Santa, can you recommend a flea market?
Estimated reading time: 3 minutes
only a few weeks left before your arrival and I haven’t bought anything yet. No present, nothing for me and nothing for others. I don’t have the faintest idea of what to look for and I haven’t even compiled the list of people who deserved a present from me this year. It’s basically the same list every year, but who knows, there might be some new entries.
This year I’d like to head for something different, something alternative, unique, that will make my friends go wow when they see it.
Do you have any advice for me? – Not Amazon and e-commerce please, I already use them all year round and yesterday after three hours of compulsive research I only ended up with a thousand non requested promotion tabs open, a terrible headache and an equally terrible feeling of frustration…not that christmassy, is it?
You’re the only one who can help me!!
I would never leave you on your own on your Christmas quest! Here’s for you my personal list of the best markets in Emilia-Romagna. From Piacenza to Rimini, you’ll find exclusive Christmas gifts, most likely handmade and of great quality. Special places with a magic atmosphere, right what you need for your Christmas shopping (and mood!).
Where: Piacenza | Auditorium Sant’Ilario, Via Garibaldi 17
When: Saturday, 17 December from 10am to 8pm | Sunday, 18 December from 2pm to 8pm
A/mano Market is a handmade and creativity festival. It’s both a meeting point and a sharing occasion for designers, artisans and visitors alike. A chance to purchase unconventional Christmas presents, exclusively handmade. Here you’ll find clothes, accessories, furniture, unique products and objects in limited edition, realised by artisans who continue a well-established tradition of independent productions with courage and passion.
Where: Bologna | Dynamo la Velostazione, Via dell’Indipendenza 71/z
When: Saturday, 17 and Sunday, 18 December from 11am to 9pm
Ride your bike and go to Bologna. I highly recommend a walk among the stands of this market. It’s a very appealing urban market for handmade, vintage, niche products, graphic, vinyl records, art-fashion-design books lovers. A venue to enjoy good music while having an aperitif with friends, hosted in one of the most original and contemporary places on the city: the Velostazione, the first secure parking for bicycles, stage of an interesting programme of events all over the year.
Where: Bologna | ZOO, Strada Maggiore 50/a
When: Saturday, 17 December from 11am to 9pm | Sunday, 18 December from4pm to 9pm
If you’re staying in Bologna, under the famous porticoes of the city centre, I recommend you stop at the bakery/bookshop Zoo. During the holidays, its spaces host a top market, the perfect place for unusual Christmas gifts, good music and warm food to experience the magic of Christmas under every aspect.
Where: Ravenna | Artificerie Almagià, via dell’Almagià 2
When: Sunday, 18 December from 10.30am to 7.30pm
And now back to Ravenna along the Darsena, the canal connecting the city with the Adriatic Sea! In the premises of a suggestive industrial archaeology building, once used as a sulphur storage site, you will find the Garage Sale. Garage Sale is temporary vintage and second-hand shop, a welcoming and warm place where you will easily spend your day among food, art and music. I know you don’t have children, but your inner child might love this as well: readings for children organised by Nati per Leggere and conceived for the Christmas holidays.
Where: Milano Marittima, Ravenna | Vialetto, Lato Viale Matteotti
When: from 24 December to 8 January from 3pm to 7pm
In the heart of stylish Milano Marittima, a few steps away from Europe’s largest ice skating rink, a market entirely dedicated to creativity and made in Italy. Its strong point? Original and niche artefacts, installations, artworks and a window with nativity scenes figures realised with the support of Antica Stamperia Pascucci, an artisan shop producing fine hand-printed canvas since 1826.
Where: Rimini | City’s Museum, Entry from Via Tonini e Piazza Ducale
When: Friday, 16 December from 5pm to 11pm | Saturday, 17 December from 11am to 11pm | Sunday, 18 December from 11am to 9pm
Admission fee: 3€
Matrioška is an art container for artists, artisans and producers of unique handmade pieces in general. A venue to exhibit and sell one’s own creations, to exchange ideas and communicate. Among jewels, furniture, clothes and terracotta, this year’s edition will feature more than seventy exhibitors. If it’s an unusual gift you’re looking for, here you’ll find it, and do not miss the cycle of conferences dedicated to photography!
