Christmas 2017: vintage and handmade markets #inEmiliaRomagna
Estimated reading time: 3 minutes
Vintage and brand clothing, jewellery and precious objects, but also furniture of some years back and craft objects that you would have never imagined to find on the stalls of a market. All this at affordable prices.
As you all well know, Christmas is coming as well as the unavoidable X hour from the start of a Christmas present list. Every year it is a drama and no one leaves this battlefield unscathed.
You have to rack your brain to find the perfect gift, which has to be nice but not too much expensive. There is the risk to be swallowed up by the Saturday afternoon’s traffic, maybe to be overwhelmed by the crowd in a shopping centre, or to spend sleepless nights glued to the computer for some e-commerce.
Good thing that during the last years the trend of vintage and handmade has caught increasingly on in Italy, giving life to new realities, and even if they are rather recent, they have become an excellent opportunity to meet and know each other, to exchange ideas or just to shake hands.
For this reason, I have prepared a list of the best vintage & handmade Christmas markets in Emilia-Romagna, where you can enjoy your Christmas shopping days and find exclusive and unique presents.
Place: San Mauro Pascoli | Spazio Ex Mir Mar, Via Roma 27
Time: Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 December, from 3pm to 8.30pm
Commonplaces is a hub of research and creativity, and further more. It has already been a couple of years since the Associazione Culturale il Cantiere Artistico nel cuore della Romagna started to promote this initiative. This year the Christmas edition will take place in the former shoe factory Mir Mar.
There will be on show handmade collections, craft and design products, clothing, furniture and handmade items, all this animated by shows, good music and local food! If you have children, no problem! There will be as usual the kids area where they can stimulate their creativity.
Garage Sale Xmas Edition
Place: Ravenna | Artificerie Almagià, via dell’Almagià 2
Time: Friday 8 December from 10.30am to 7.30pm
Going to Ravenna along the Darsena, we arrive at the Almagià. Inside this polyvalent space that once was a warehouse of sulphur returns the usual meeting with the Garage Sale, but in a very special version in view of Christmas.
It is a friendly temporary shop, perfect if you are in search of vintage or secondhand objects, but also if you like to spend an amusing day with your friends among music, quality food and artistic installations. Attention is given to the younger too with readings by the volunteers of the project Nati per Leggere and with the Swedish Lab directed by Pernilla M K Vall and SveRa – Swedish Cultural Association.
Place: Rimini | Sismondo Castle – Piazza Malatesta
Time: Friday 8, Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 December from 10am to 9pm
Admission against payment: 3€ one day; 5€ three days
Matrioska pushes out the boat this year for its #12th edition, the Christmas edition, moving to Sismondo Castle, in the heart of Rimini. In this wonderful venue more than 70 exhibitors, like artists and artisans with great manual skills, will show you their ideas and latest creations. Everything is even more suggestive thanks to a series of collateral events animated by music, performances, exhibitions, workshops, aperitifs and much fun.
Dove: Piacenza | Arcades of Piazza Cavalli and Auditorium Sant’Ilario – Via Garibaldi 17
Quando: Friday 8 December from 11am to 7pm (arcades of Piazza Cavalli); Saturday 16 December from 10am to 8pm and Sunday 17 December from 2pm to 8pm (Auditorium Sant’Ilario)
A/Mano Market is the handmade and creativity festival in Piacenza since 2011. This market is a good opportunity to find exclusive objects, especially in view of Christmas, from dressmaking to items all kinds, including jewellery or furniture pieces. It represents also an excellent meeting point for young designers and artisans of the surroundings and not. It is a very dynamic social space enriched by music performances and appetizing food stands.
The Craft Factory
Place: Bologna | Sympò ex-Chiesa, Via Lame 83
Time: Saturday 9 December from 11am to 7pm, Sunday 10 December from 10am to 7am
To the cry of “Fatto a mano è meglio!”, in Italian “handmade is better”, in an all new Christmas edition, the craft market of Bologna returns in the magnificent setting of Sympò, an ancient church dating back to 1500. All those who took part to the last editions know that here you can find excellent handmade products, from jewellery to furniture pieces, from clothing to objects for your children. Tasty food and good music will accompany your shopping!
Dyna Market di Natale
Place: Bologna | Dynamo la Velostation, Via dell’Indipendenza 71/z
Time: Friday 15, Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 December from 4pm to 9pm
We stay in Bologna travelling by bike, until arriving at the Velostation, in Via Indipendenza, the first bicycle secure parking that offers all year round a schedule full of interesting events. Under these the famous Christmas Dyna Market, that keeps its promise to impress as usual its visitors with vintage and craft products, as well as high-quality and refined products, all framed by tasty aperitifs and Dj set.
Place: Cesena | Teatro Verdi, Via Sostegni 13/A
Time: Sunday 17 December from 10am to 8pm | Sunday 18 December from 2pm to 8pm
A market, a theatre in the background, and good to go! This year the right place for the Christmas presents’ hunt might be right the Gipsy Garden. The formula is the one seen here above: strictly craft but high-quality and good taste products. Music, food and – why not – a dash of craziness – will animate everybody and create a special atmosphere while meeting the exhibitors.
