One, two, three… let’s ski

Sara Mantovani October 19, 2011

Second step of our journey around the ski resorts of Emilia Romagna region on the occasion of the Sky and Snowboard show (London Earl’s court 19-23 October)

Authentic emotions offered by uncontaminated nature, sunshine and a relaxing holiday on the snow. The frisson of downhill runs and breathtaking sceneries that frame moments of pure winter joy. Cimone, the highest mountain in the northern Apennines offers 30 runs covering 50 km and 22 lift systems all accessible with one “hands-free” skipass; there are more than 50 instructors and different baby parks where small children can play on the snow and learn to ski in total safety.

The Ski Area Piane di Mocogno offers four ski lifts, two magic carpets, a snow tubing run, solarium and a night ski run. The queen of the seven downhill runs is the Lupo run that starts at 1600 m on Mount Cantiere and with a drop of over 400 m arrives at the starting point. Sant’Annapelago has two chairlifts and a ski lift connected to each other and directly accessible from the village.

Many snow activities are available: freeride and off-piste skiing, ski-mountaineering, ice climbing and snow racketing. Beautiful cross-country skiing trails are available in Piane di Mocogno, Fiumalbo, S.Annapelago and Piandelagotti; night snow racketing is also available. A snow racket competition is organised every year and thanks to the cooperation of the CSI it is becoming an international event for professional and amateur athletes.

You can also experience the emotion of Dog sledding. The Apennines will continue to amaze you even after you have taken your skis off: for those who still have plenty of energy there is the artificial ice climbing wall, tennis courts, swimming pool, a disco or the Ice Rink in Fanano, which is a good alternative when the weather conditions make it impossible to ski. For those wishing to relax after a perfect day on the snow there are typical restaurants, exhibitions, museums and cultural events. The unforgettable pleasure of good food and warm hospitality for the whole family.

For lovers of snowboarding the Cimone park offers a snowpark dedicated which is between run 9 and the run that goes towards Polle, between the Cimone quad chairlift 14 and the Pian Cavallaro double chairlift 15. It is also visible from the Passo del Lupo cableway and the Cimone quad chairlift 14. The park is divided into the Pro and Beginners areas; in the Pro area there is a Half Pipe, Jump, Rail and C-Bank.
In the Beginners Area there are small jumps max 5 m and in the top part there are rails and low C-Banks.
