Easter treats in Riviera di Rimini

Sara Mantovani April 19, 2011

From sunlit beaches to torchlit processions, food festivals to Frisbee, Riviera di Rimini plays host to an “eggsraordinary” array of events this Easter.

You could try to become a Beach Bunny at The Paganello’ (21st – 25th April); 1200 athletes from 25 nations are expected to arrive in Rimini for the Frisbee World Championships held on the beach. Professionals and amateurs alike can join in the fun, or watch from the sidelines and make the most of the temporary bars and the legendary party atmosphere.

Maybe you prefer something more quite so the Rimini Kite Festival (‘Aquilonata sul mare’) (16th – 17th April) will suit to you. An entire weekend of entertainment and fun attracting kite enthusiasts from all over Europe who will show off their flying skills, including acrobatics performed in time with music.

Thinking spiritual? The Procession of the Cross in Montegridolfo ( 22nd April) will be your destination. Over one hundred people dressed in Roman costume take part in a torchlit procession through the charming old town of Montegridolfo. The procession starts from the Church of San Rocco at 21.00 on Good Friday.

Just to have together the sacred and the profane, enjoy ‘Eatster’ at a food festival ‘Squisito!’ (29th April – 2nd May). Cooking lessons, workshops and debates take place during this four day festival that attracts Michelin starred chefs, experts, journalists and foodies.  The events take place in San Patrignano; a community which uses the growing and production of food and wine as a means of rehabilitation for recovering drug addicts.
