A short break in Castelnovo ne’ Monti climbing the rocks
Sara Mantovani August 31, 2012Castelnovo ne’ Monti is the heart of the Reggio Emilia Apennines.
It is located at an altitude of 700 m among three large pinewoods, at the foot of the Pietra di Bismantova (isolated spur) in the Parco Nazionale dell’Appenino Tosco – Emiliano.
For rock climbers the Pietra is the most complete natural training ground in Emilia Romagna; thanks to its geographic, morphologic and technical characteristics it is an ideal destination for trekkers and mountaineers from Northern Italy. The many boulders around the Pietra make it excellent for the emerging climbing discipline called bouldering. The Pietra features a number of long routes for climbers including a via ferrata.
Castelnovo is a modern, efficient and functional town one hour away from Parma, Reggio Emilia and Modena. The hotels offer warm and friendly hospitality, typical of the Emilia region. The town also has a cinema, theatre, excellent shops and a famous hospital with an important Heart Rehabilitation Centre. Many sporting activities are available: a modern athletics facility with a new track, a sports medicine centre, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, gyms, swimming pool and football pitches.
